Crystals snow flake

Most precious and semi-precious gems come from the earth. We do have exceptions to this rule, e.g. Moldavite. Our brothers and sisters of old, understood the virtues of crystals and stones, both in their visual beauty and magical qualities. Throughout the ages humans have attributed a ‘language of stones’ to the unique and varying qualities that these gems imbibe. The priest and priestess in ancient times used gen stones in ritual to protect, heal and to divine the future. Stones became associated with particular deities as did other issues of our mother earth. Shells and pearls have also long been appreciated for their connection to the moon goddess, who rules the tides.

The use of crystals, particularly in healing, have gained a revived popularity in recent years. There is beginning to accumulate, a vast body of knowledge and experience, regarding the qualities and uses of stones and crystals. There are however, two distinct schools of thought, concerning the validity of using crystals for healing. On the one hand, we have those who believe that each type of stone e.g. Amethyst, has its own unique type of energy or vibration, that it is possible for us to ‘tap into’ and use for our own purposes. In the case of Amethyst this energy is described as a ’high-spiritual energy’, and so this point of view argues that by using Amethyst, it is possible to reach these spiritual heights. The other school of thought, sees the crystals and stones as each being representational of a particular vibration of energy. The more that e.g. Amethyst, is used to aid the transcending process, the more that representation is empowered on the astral plane. The link therefore, with using Amethyst on the earthly plane, is that the doorways to the higher spiritual plane will be opened. This happens because the Amethyst is empowered in this way by association over time and repeated use. Because gems, stones and crystals are often associated with gods and goddesses, these links between the worlds are said to be very powerful. For example, the Emerald is attributed to the Goddess Aphrodite, who is the Goddess of love. If you wanted to work with the energy of love, this would be an appropriate stone to use. Many green stones are attributed to Venus and Aphrodite.
